Centre for water systems

The Centre for Water Systems (CWS) at the University of Exeter meets a real need for research into water systems engineering. Supporting, developing and operationalising sustainable water management is a key challenge for the future that is strongly addressed by the Centre’s activities. The Centre for Water Systems is actively researching in many fields including techniques taken from the field of artificial intelligence such as genetic algorithms, cellular automata, neural networks and genetic programming. They are continually looking for new ways to apply these techniques to more and more complex problems in the water industry. Their research interests span the following categories:

  • Water distribution system management
  • Urban drainage system management
  • Water, climate change and sustainability
  • Artificial Intelligence research and applications
  • Water resources management
  • Flood risk management
